I’m currently reading Le mythe du Québec vert by La Presse environment-beat reporter François Cardinal. (BTW, I’m really happy that we have a regular section about the environment in our most important Qubec daily. Definitely worth reading). Unfortunately, the book is not (yet) translated in English. I certainly hope it will be because, in it, Mr. Cardinal punctures a few myths about Quebecers’ so-called green slant.
Case in point: it’s all fine and dandy, in opinion polls, people here vote overwhelmingly in favour of the application of the Kyoto Protocol. But there’s just one slight problem, you see: in Canada, Quebec is the province that produces the most waste per capita (twice as much as Alberta-the-villain)! These facts and other eye-openers are mercilessly presented in Mr. Cardinal’s book.
I have asked for the author’s permission and he has graciously agreed to let me publish translations of a few short excerpts of his book.
Stay tuned, dear Greens, I will get around to it as soon as possible, because now is the time to raise those issues, as there is another election in the fall and I want Quebecers to get off their bums and really walk the walk – not just talk the talk.
Un texte en français va suivre bientôt et, si possible, aussi en espagnol.
